Off to La Bassée Town Hall, a commune of 6,700 inhabitants south of the Lille metropolitan area in France, where the Mayor and his Deputy Director are waiting to share how they use the Speechi interactive display at the town hall. We set up our cameras in the large, bright wedding hall, and the interview begins!
A big thank you to Frédéric Cauderlier, Mayor of La Bassée, and his Deputy Director, Ludovic Declercq, Head of the Communications and Public Relations Department, for kindly agreeing to share their experience of using the Speechi interactive display with us.
The Town Hall Modernization Plan
Before diving into their daily use of the Speechi interactive display, we wanted to understand what motivated the town hall team to invest in such a tool.
An Unsatisfactory Projector…
As Ludovic Declercq explains, the acquisition of the interactive display was part of a broader plan to modernize the town hall’s IT equipment. The town hall had already been using a visual display solution—a projector—which, as the Mayor points out, caused multiple issues with image clarity, precision, and calibration.
Inspired by the Schools of La Bassée
When the time came to replace the projector, the decision was straightforward: they opted for the same tool that had already been successfully installed in all the town’s schools.

“All our schools are equipped with interactive displays. They previously had interactive whiteboards (…) Now, we use this tool [which is] much more ergonomic and interactive for students, especially since it can also be interconnected with tablets available in the schools. It works extremely well for our schools.”
They thus acquired an 86” SuperGlass +S interactive display, mounted on a wheeled stand for mobility, and chose an adjustable stand with a motorized height adjustment operated by a remote control.
“It can be moved easily, from the meeting room, to the wedding hall, to the municipal council room. Because it’s mobile, it’s super convenient.”
From Municipal Council to Project Management Workshops
When and how is the interactive display used? Our two interviewees described a wide range of work situations. Here’s a brief overview:

The Municipal Council
Primarily, the screen is used during municipal council meetings, which are open to the public. Documents are displayed on the screen so that everyone can easily follow the discussions.
Architect Competitions, Tender Committees, Project Management Workshops
Beyond council meetings, the screen is invaluable during project meetings and project tracking sessions, where it is used to comfortably display plans, renderings, and perspectives.
Staff Training
The screen is also used for staff training sessions. For example, Ludovic Declercq mentioned a training session on welcoming deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, where the trainers, already familiar with the Speechi tool, fully leveraged its interactivity to enhance their teaching.
The Many Uses of the Interactive Display: From Videoconferencing to Screen Sharing
How do they use the screen in these various situations? During the interview, they mentioned videoconferencing, web browsing, and especially annotation during workshops. However, three main uses stood out:
Displaying Documents
At the heart of their usage is document display. This fundamental yet powerful feature addresses a common challenge in meetings: enabling everyone to work together efficiently and stay on the same page.

“Everyone benefits from the same view at the same time.”
“Today, the person leading the meeting guides the pace, and everyone receives the same information simultaneously.”
Screen Sharing
Whether via ByTello Share’s screen mirroring or a direct cable connection when WiFi is unreliable, screen sharing is a simple, accessible feature for everyone.

“In terms of functionality, someone with no IT skills at all can just connect their laptop, boom, it’s on, or use a code or screen mirroring. It’s very, very easy to use even for complete beginners.”
What is Screen Sharing?
Screen sharing allows you to project your personal device’s display—be it a PC, tablet, or smartphone—onto the interactive display.
During a meeting, anyone can share their work with the team either by entering a code displayed permanently on the screen using the free Bytello Share app or by simply plugging in a cable.
Displaying Multiple Windows Simultaneously (Multiwindow Mode)
Frédéric Cauderlier highlighted another standout feature: the ability to display multiple sources of information side-by-side with the multiwindow function. For example, during an architectural project presentation, they can simultaneously show architectural proposals and a Google Maps window pinpointing the project’s location.
Displaying multiple elements at once makes it easier to understand a project in its entirety and to switch seamlessly between different types of information without the tedious task of opening and closing windows.

Final Words: “The Benefits are Multiple”

“The practicality and the time saved preparing meetings are invaluable for the town hall.”

“Once you have it, you can’t live without it. Honestly, as Ludovic said earlier: why didn’t we buy it sooner?”
